Berlin is an incredible city break whether it’s for 3 days or a week. If you are into culture, art or history Berlin is a fantastic choice for your next European break.
From Brandenburg Gate to hot tub boats, there is so much opportunity for you to explore in this lush city.
How To Get There
From the UK there are different airports you can get to Berlin from at cheap prices too. Me and my partner are from Southampton and we can’t fly directly, but we can get cheap connecting flights from Amsterdam. 2 x one hour flights and you are in the city.
Getting to the city centre is super easy and cheap too. You can get train and bus services to the airport which run every half an hour or so. We got the S-Bahn straight to the centre which took about 25 minutes ish and be prepared it can get very busy.
Where To Stay
There are lots of different hotels in Berlin you can stay in depending on your requirements. We stayed at Novotel Berlin Mitte for around £50 a night and it was perfect. Comfiest rooms an about a 10 minute walk away from the centre of the hotel. It is one of my favourite rooms we have stayed in due to the comfort and the service of the staff.
Day 1
Get out and explore. Settle into your hotel but get used to the location of where you are staying. It’s a big city and you could easily get lost to take your time to enjoy your surroundings and view the local area.
We ended up walking past the Berlin TV Tower & found a place to eat. You know a restaurant is good when it is packed on a Sunday. Biermeisterei is an incredible place to eat – especially if you love steak or burgers. I had the classic burger with bacon, cheese, caramelised onion and chips. It was so so tasty and they recommend beer pairings too!

Day 2
First up is to grab a coffee, Berlin has the best coffee ever. We headed to Noys which is one of the top recommended. It’s a cute kiosk vibe where you can get take out coffee and pastries. They have no syrup because their coffee doesn’t need it as they explained and gosh thats true!
Walk down to Brandenburg Gate. If you can go on a walking tour to learn more about this iconic landmark. It is a great place to grab a photo and learn about the history of the city.

This isn’t for the faint hearted but you can walk up the Victory Column. It is a lot of steps in a spiral staircase. I wanted to faint and everyone might have laughed at it but for 4 euros you can get a beautiful view of the city.
Head for some lunch. The walk down to Brandenburg Gate there are lots of outside cafes where you can grab a bratwurst.
You can visit the Reichstag building for free! The queues are pretty good as you can choose different visiting times and they choose one for you. You learn a lot about the history of the city & government of Germany.
Go on the Hot Tub Boat! I found the Hot Tub Boat through TikTok. It’s 150 euros for 90 minutes – we got 2 hours as it was quiet. You can buy a drink to have on board and sail across the river. It was the most beautiful evening, quiet and serene. You also get the best views ever of the city.

Day 3
We always do a walking tour when we visit a city if we have time and we had the BEST walking tour guide called Cristobal. He really taught us so much about the city and made it light which was lovely as there were some tough facts.
As part of the walking tour, you head to the Holocaust Memorial. This was extremely emotional and you really get time to take in the events of the Holocaust. I highly recommend to visit during your time in Berlin.

Going to the Berlin TV Tower should be on your list. As someone who has a fear of heights this wasn’t too bad. The queues were quick and there are facilities in the building. When you are up there it almost doesn’t feel real. It does feel very tight due to the number of people which is something to consider. There is a bar to make you feel better.
Visit the Topography of Terror. We didn’t know what to expect from this but we really found it worth visiting. You need more time here than you expect due to the amount of information that you learn. It’s located near the Berlin wall and it goes through the entire history of the city from before the war and to after the wall. It is also completely free to visit.
We absolutely loved Berlin and cannot wait to go back. There is so so so much to explore that you might need 5+ days. The people are really friendly and you will make so many lovely memories in this city x
